The first major upgrade to AutoCAD was release 2.0 in October 1983, which added a 2D drafting view as well as a 2D text and line editing environment. AutoCAD 2.5, which was the first AutoCAD release to support three-dimensional drafting, was released in May 1984. For a time, the AutoCAD software and documentation were written in BCPL, a language that took the basic syntax of Basic, but was designed to be portable across different hardware platforms. AutoCAD 3.0, released in September 1985, introduced a 3D drawing capability with a feature-level approach to modeling, and a command-line interface (CLI). AutoCAD 3.5, released in February 1986, added workgroup interoperability with other Autodesk programs.
The next major release of AutoCAD, AutoCAD 3.1, was released in December 1986. AutoCAD 4.0, released in March 1987, was the first AutoCAD release to support all current versions of the Microsoft Windows platform. The only other commercially available Windows-based CAD software at that time was Intergraph’s VectorWorks, an enterprise-level program. AutoCAD 4.5, released in May 1989, introduced a simplified user interface and new features for drafting and drawing, such as “tolerance” tools and “snap to” features. AutoCAD 4.6, released in December 1989, introduced tool palettes, a “crosshair” cursor, and hardware portability.
The next major release of AutoCAD was AutoCAD 5.0, released in April 1991. In October of that year, Autodesk released AutoCAD LT, a lower-cost alternative to AutoCAD. With AutoCAD LT, the company started to make the AutoCAD program available for Windows 3.1 and 3.11. AutoCAD LT 3.5, released in October 1993, included several new features, such as a compatibility option to allow existing installations to run AutoCAD LT. AutoCAD LT 5.0, released in January 1994, had support for floating and multiple windows. AutoCAD LT 6.0, released in March 1994, added the ability to create “source” files to support portable editing among operating systems. AutoCAD LT 6.5, released in August 1995, added an “Edit menu” that enabled users to access other editors that are not part of AutoCAD LT. Auto

AutoCAD supports importing and exporting 3D models (such as SolidWorks and SketchUp files), though the time required to generate a 3D model to AutoCAD is still considerable.
AutoCAD 2010 and later versions have also integrated a native 3D modeling capability based on the Insight Technology tools. This is known as 3D Modeling Application, (3DM). The add-on is available free of charge for Autodesk Inventor users.
Inventor modeling is based on the same principles as AutoCAD. For example, the programming language is ObjectARX, which extends the capabilities of the programming language, ObjectARX.
AutoCAD 2010 and earlier versions did not support 3D modeling.
Drawings are stored in “design entity” files, and drawing files are not linked to the entity.
AutoCAD includes the ability to create multidisciplinary designs for various disciplines that support paper based project design and analysis. AutoCAD allows the user to create a multidisciplinary design by utilizing a technique called “virtual assembly”. This allows a user to specify where various components are to be used and when they are to be used. This is accomplished by first creating design assemblies to define the functionality of the design.
Multiple design assemblies can be used to create a final design product. Design assemblies are created using a range of shapes and objects which represent a design that will be used. Each design assembly can contain objects from other assemblies, including the output assembly, and can be used to add design details to an existing assembly. Design assemblies can be combined to make a final assembly, which is used to create a new product.
A multidisciplinary design enables a user to create and manage design assemblies without having to deal with drawings and architecture while collaborating with colleagues. The ability to perform analysis on the design assemblies also enables multi-disciplinary design.

Autodesk Technical Support
The Autodesk support organization is always eager to help customers, and we
are pleased to provide this help to you. To be assured of a fast response to
your issues, please try to keep the number of tickets for Autodesk products
below the level of your technical support contact (i.e. if you have a
technical support contact for 3D design, please also have a technical support
contact for 2D).
If you don’t see a response within 48 hours, please check the “Resend” button
in your email.
We have separated the Autodesk website into different Autodesk brands and

The present invention relates generally to a method and apparatus for detection of electrical faults in power distribution systems. More specifically, the invention is directed to an optical fault isolation method and apparatus for determining the presence of a ground fault in a power distribution system.
Power distribution systems, such as a feeder of an electrical utility, typically include a number of circuit breakers, transformers and other components which transfer electrical power from one or more power generation sources to various loads. The loads in such a distribution system may be equipment operated by a commercial customer, equipment operated by a utility, or other types of loads. Each load in the power distribution system may be equipped with a load center which receives electrical power from the distribution system and converts the electrical power to a form usable by the load.
A common problem in power distribution systems is the presence of an electrical fault, e.g., an electrical short circuit or an electrical open circuit, that is fed to a load center. Fault currents may

Quickly import and incorporate feedback from other applications such as Word, Excel, and PDF documents, as well as CAD data (e.g. from other CAD applications). (video: 1:22 min.)
Now you can import and incorporate feedback into your AutoCAD drawings using the Cloud SDK, making it easier than ever to import and incorporate feedback and insights right from the Cloud. (video: 1:45 min.)
Insert new shapes directly from any text or images you might have in a PDF or other format. (video: 1:45 min.)
After import, just draw and modify to your heart’s content without any other CAD workflow. (video: 1:19 min.)
Revert, undo, and redo all from one command. (video: 1:19 min.)
Plus, even more powerful search and find commands.
New tools for adding comments, notes, and more.
Work better together with other Cloud services.
New tools for more flexible 2D environments.
Sync directly to and from other Cloud services like Dropbox, Box, and OneDrive.
Support for improved DWG Exports.
Support for more flexible DWG Exports.
Much more to come in AutoCAD 2021, but these are a few of our highlights.
Note: these features are currently available in AutoCAD 2023.
Markup and Import
AutoCAD 2023 adds new features for working with feedback, such as feedback from printed paper or PDFs and additional comments, notes, and reviews to your drawings, and these features are available now. For example, you can import feedback from paper or PDFs into AutoCAD and incorporate that feedback into your drawings, and AutoCAD will add the changes to the drawings automatically. AutoCAD even allows you to import comments, notes, and reviews directly from other applications, so you can draw and send feedback from other applications and incorporate that feedback into your drawings. For example, you can import feedback from Word, Excel, and PDF documents into your drawings and incorporate that feedback into your drawings.
Rapidly Send and Incorporate Feedback
With the latest release of AutoCAD, you can send and incorporate feedback into your designs much more quickly than ever before. The 2019 release of AutoCAD introduced a new Quick Feedback Toolbar to enable you to review, select, and
